MapleTriage project kickoff: building a Canadian, privacy-first AI medical-triage platform

Moncton, New Brunswick

Joel & Nanz Inc. today marks the official kickoff of MapleTriage, a new initiative to build a Canadian, privacy-first AI medical-triage platform from the ground up.

The idea behind MapleTriage is straightforward. Canadian healthcare teams spend too much time on triage paperwork and documentation, while much of the technology meant to help processes sensitive patient data outside of Canada under privacy rules that do not match Canadian expectations. MapleTriage sets out to do better on both fronts: reduce the documentation burden on clinicians, and do it on infrastructure that is Canadian, sovereign, and aligned with PIPEDA.

From day one, privacy and Canadian data residency are being treated as design requirements rather than features added later. The platform is being built by a Moncton, New Brunswick company under the principle of Canadian Made, Canadian Kept, Canadian Driven.

Alongside development, MapleTriage is beginning the process of pursuing innovation funding through Canada's National Research Council Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP). This early-stage support and the discipline it brings will help guide the project's technical roadmap responsibly.

MapleTriage is at the very start of its journey. Healthcare providers, partners, and others interested in the work are invited to follow along and get in touch.
